Coombes Church

Nestled in a deep recess of the South Downs, Coombes is situated on a farm, 2 miles north of

Shoreham.

This is not in a built up area but historically has served a community called 'Applesham'.

The church (known simply as 'Coombes') was reduced in size during the 18th century.

It is one of the simplest but most enigmatic buildings in Sussex.

Inside Coombes

There are few Sussex Churches which display wall art.

Much of the art which has been found, has subsequently dissappeared.

At Coombes, there is art of most of the walls. This was 'discovered' in 1946 and has been recently restored
